Video #7: Joshua Lonergan Sends Kurt Mendelsohn Packing

Kurt Mendelsohn has quit LRW Wrestling, and the above music video seems quite appropriate for several reasons. First off, it's interesting to note how toxic people seem to think you'll miss them when they leave. Secondly, I have negative memories of Kurt dating back to days before we ever even met; Kurt was originally scheduled to wrestle in one of the very first LRW productions but he backed out at the last minute, after a nonrefundable, round-trip Greyhound bus ticket from Boston had already been purchased in his name. (No, it wasn't exactly a huge financial loss, but the experience irked me anyway, on principle.)
Now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's recap the match.
Video #7's mat introductions went off pretty much as expected. Kurt behaved in his typical braggadocios manner, as rude and blindly aggressive as a young Donald Trump. (I learned that Kurt and Trump even have similar ethnic heritages, by the way.)  By contrast, Joshua played to the camera like a matinee idol, and Kurt seemed annoyed by Joshua's affability.
Immediately following the intros, the virtuous and slightly naive young man from rural New Hampshire almost made a classic rookie mistake when Kurt extended his hand to Joshua prior to the match. As anyone familiar with pro wrestling realizes, devious "heels" like Mendelsohn invariably launch sneak attacks on unsuspecting "faces" during pre-match handshakes. Had this encounter taken place in the no-rules environment of UCW, Joshua would have been victimized and the Philly crowd would have snickered. However, I immediately rushed to Joshua's side and clued him in about the underhanded tactics of pro wrestling villains. (Joshua seemed grateful to have avoided a cheapshot while Kurt simmered in resentment.)
Kurt seemed more convinced than ever that the deck was stacked against him when the match's special guest referee was announced -- Sean Evans, whom Kurt had brutalized in LRW Wrestling match #6 to earn his shot at Joshua. (In actually, Sean is a young man of high moral and ethical character who would always take his officiating duties seriously, regardless of whatever personal animosity existed between himself and one of the combatants.)
From the opening whistle, Joshua dominated Kurt, and the tide never really turned in this match. Occasionally, Kurt would use his size advantage to power out of holds, but the equally strong and more compact Joshua would remain on the attack, keeping Kurt off-balance and under control.
About the only times that Kurt could gain a clear advantage occurred when he engaged in ungentlemanly tactics like hair-pulling.
Kurt attempted several desperate and rather inept pin attempts, during which Joshua had little difficulty keeping one shoulder off the mat. (Following the pin attempt pictured below, a frustrated Kurt resorted to more spiteful hair-pulling.)
Prior to this match, Joshua stated that he had been enraged by the unnecessarily rough tactics utilized by Kurt against Sean in our last video. With Sean in close proximity to the action, Joshua appeared almost maniacal as he doled out retribution to Kurt.
Kurt and Joshua are probably the two strongest, most physically intimidating wrestlers that LRW Wrestling has ever presented. Often these two combatants resembled bulls locking horns in an epic struggle.
As the match wore on, Kurt increasingly showed signs of fatigue, and Joshua was able to manhandle his larger opponent.
In a display of intestinal fortitude, Kurt was able to endure a camel clutch. With his last ounce of strength, Kurt finally powered out of Joshua's expertly applied maneuver.
However, Joshua was relentless in his attack, and he trapped Kurt in the same maneuver less than a minute later.
This time, Kurt was pushed beyond the limit of his endurance, and Mr. Invincibility tapped out. (Actually, this was a violation of the LRW Wrestling rules, which state: "To submit to an opponent, a wrestler must say, "I quit," clearly and audibly, in that exact term. Tapping the mat or using any other phraseology will not be sufficient to stop the match." However, I did not specifically mention this rule to Sean prior to the match, and continuing to apply this painful, somewhat dangerous hold after Kurt's submission would have served no purpose.)
During the postmatch interviews, to make up for sparing Kurt the humiliation of verbalizing his submission, I mocked and ridiculed his "Invictus Maneo" tattoo (which, at that point, amounted to false advertising). Thin-skinned Kurt then proclaimed his decision to quit LRW Wrestling, and stormed out of the room. By contrast, Joshua was a complete gentleman during his interview, and he promised to wrestle for LRW again in the future.

Video #7: Kurt Mendelsohn vs. Joshua Lonergan (Available For Download)

...with special guest referee Sean Evans!!!

Muscular Joshua Lonergan crushes the life out of his larger opponent

Kurt Mendelsohn is a monster. Standing at 6'2" tall and weighing a rock solid 170 lbs., Kurt is one of the most physically intimidating wrestlers ever to join the LRW Wrestling roster.
In Video #6, Sean Evans graced LRW Wrestling with a spirited performance that surprised even grizzled mat observers like Ringside at Skull Island's Blogger Joe, but (alas) Kurt's 3" height advantage and (more importantly) his 30 lb. weight advantage proved too much for young Sean to overcome.
Kurt Mendelsohn lifted off his feet by Joshua Lonergan
After Sean's heartbreaking loss to Kurt, we searched for an heroic wrestler who possessed the size and strength to provide Kurt with some serious competition -- a powerfully built "face" who could deliver a richly deserved comeuppance to our Bostonian "heel."
In Joshua Lonergan, Kurt Mendelsohn may finally have met his match. Kurt does have a 4" height advantage over Joshua. However, Joshua packs 174 lbs. of solid muscle onto his 5'10" frame, and that could make all the difference in this encounter! Anyone who has seen Joshua's physique knows that Kurt will have a difficult time manhandling this former New Hampshire farm boy (and ex-army paratrooper). Furthermore, during Joshua's introductory interview, our young hero expressed a visceral dislike for Kurt, and a disgust for Mendelsohn's treatment of Sean Evans in our last video presentation.
Joshua punishes Kurt with an armbar similar to the maneuver Kurt applied to Sean Evans in Video #6
"Retribution" seems to be the name of the game in Video #7, since Sean Evans has been tabbed as referee for this battle. Sean is expected to call the match in a fair and impartial manner, but he obviously will have very little patience with Kurt's rule breaking. The presence of a strict, no-nonsense referee could place Mr. Mendelsohn at a distinct disadvantage.
Joshua Lonergan fights fire with fire in his match against the ruthless Kurt Mendelsohn
Will Kurt score a victory over Joshua, forcing LRW Wrestling to give the tatted-up hooligan a shot at the prestigious LRW Wrestling Super-Star Championship title belt (currently held by the controversial Fratboy Francis Franklin aka "Triple F") or will All-American muscleboy Joshua Lonergan derail the Boston Express and silence Kurt's boasts of invincibility? Check out LRW Wrestling Video #7 and find out!!!

Video #6: Kurt Mendelsohn Overpowers Sean Evans (and "Ringside" Gets It Right)

"Ringside at Skull Island" reviewed this match, and Blogger Joe got it right -- totally.
No, "there's not much in the way of storyline or wrestling moves." Heck, there's no storyline at all. The only time LRW Wrestling concocted a storyline was when Shane Saunders arrived from UCW Wrestling (and that angle practically wrote itself). That's not to say LRW will never again feature "story lines similar to what you would see on WWE, ROH, or TNA." (We plan to deliver a full-blown, pro-wrestling style homage to David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" if and when we can corral enough wrestlers/models/actors for that out-of-the-box concept.)
As for wrestling moves...huh? Neither Kurt nor Sean (nor most of our roster) had any prior wrestling experience when they were signed. As Joe mentioned, LRW produces matches featuring "healthy, good-looking guys tossing and tumbling in front of a fixed-position camera." Although Joe would prefer "a mix of sustained athletic holds like scissors, figure-fours, chinlocks, and the like," Joe also admits that "the wrestlers' spirit counts for a lot too, and these guys have it." (Behind-the-scenes information: During this match's spirited give-and-take, we had to stop the action mid-match and shoot some promotional stills because Sean had become nauseous and he needed a break.)
Face it, if you're a wrestling purist, you want Movimus, not us. LRW Wrestling hires "wrestlers with photogenic appeal," and that remains our primary focus. (The LRW wrestlers are guys we would pay to see if they were jobbing at a local indie pro event, based on their looks alone.) LRW is basically for fans who want to see eye-candy roughhousing on a gaudy pink wrestling mat. (LRW blurs the line between "works" and "shoots," and match #6 is mostly a "shoot" similar in spirit to our initial offering, Triple F vs. Kyle O'Connor).
Blogger Joe labeled Kurt Mendelsohn as "hot" and said that "his personality and energy carry the show" while referring to Sean Evans as "tight-lipped" and categorizing him as "an artsy house-music type." Although those descriptions are valid (and memorably phrased), Joe's reaction to the two wrestlers is typically quite different from mine. In this match-up, my heart was with Sean all the way. Sean initially charmed me in his introductory interview, and he never stopped.
Kurt, on the other hand, was not what I expected, based on his modeling portfolio's photos. I had anticipated working with a preppy, college athlete and ended up with a tatted-up super villain who would have functioned quite well among "the ape-shit insanities of UCW" (Joe's words again, third paragraph here). This was Kurt's second invitation to work on an LRW video; previously, he had been a last-minute cancellation. When Kurt arrived, tardy, unshaven, and full of hubris, I told him that he reminded me of a young Donald Trump. (Kurt did not react, and I assume that he was flattered by the comparison.)
It seems ironic that, in the blog that I used to regularly publish, I frequently railed against UCW for allowing "heels" to dominate their federation. Now that I have my own fed, I'm chagrined by the fact that nearly every match has turned out contrary to my wishes (with the notable exception of match #4, which was basically a lose small / lose big situation). What happens during LRW tapings seems to reflect what goes on in life (and society) in general: Nice Guys Finish Last.
Blogger Joe is almost guilty of posting a "spoiler" when he notes, "Sean puts up a better offense than I expected, given his size relative to Kurt's, but Kurt steamrolls over him time and time again." That's basically how this match goes, folks. At the end of this bit of "anarchic recklessness" which Joe "associate(s) with backyard and basement wrestling of the 1990s," Kurt's hand is raised in victory. (Our Locker Room page has been updated to reflect the result of this encounter.)
LRW Wrestling is currently searching for a handsome, heroic "face" with the physical size (and maybe even a smidgen of grappling know-how) capable of defeating Kurt Mendelsohn. Otherwise, we'll have to give Kurt a title shot, which will be another lose-lose proposition for us and for our fans. Yes, our current champion, Fratboy Francis Franklin (aka "Triple F") is a bit of a brat, but at least he has class. Kurt Mendelsohn is, by anyone's estimation, a ruffian unlike any wrestler we've hired previously. (No, Joe, our previous matches haven't been "more sedate," but our hirees have been.)
At any rate, time to pay the bills (and our photogenic young men's salaries)...
This extremely fast-paced video is 17 minutes and 4 seconds long. That includes the 12 minute, 13 second actual match (along with wrestler introductions), plus a brief, postmatch interview with each combatant.

Video #6: Kurt Mendelsohn vs. Sean Evans (Available For Download)

In Kurt Mendelsohn, the generally genteel LRW federation has acquired a different sort of wrestler. Mendelsohn is a tatted up ruffian from the wrong side of the tracks who seems more intent on crushing an opponent than on merely gaining a victory in a sporting endeavor. Kurt enters the mat area to the tune of "All of the Lights" by Kanye West (a bombastic celebrity whose personality mirrors Kurt's in many respects).

In stark contrast to the egomaniacal Mendelsohn, Sean Evans is a well-bred, cordial, articulate young man who simply wants to display his athletic prowess. Wearing his white wrestling trunks emblazoned with the word, "Mizfitt," Sean makes his entrance to the ambient noise music of "Bone Scissors" (one of Sean's own compositions). Basically, this match will be a clash between a creative rebel and a bullying brawler.

Sean sets an incredibly fast pace at the onset of this contest; clearly the slender grappler plans to tire out his larger, more muscular opponent (in much the same manner that Triple F defeated Kyle O'Connor for the LRW Wrestling Super-Star Championship in our inaugural match-up). However, unlike Kyle O'Connor, Kurt Mendelsohn reacts to his opponent's frustrating speed and endurance by utilizing short-cuts and taking cheap shots (including frequent tugs on Sean's shoulder-length hair).

This extremely fast-paced video is 17 minutes and 4 seconds long. That includes the 12 minute, 13 second actual match (along with wrestler introductions), plus a brief, postmatch interview with each combatant.

When it comes to pure physical power, Kurt certainly has the upper-hand over Sean (as evidenced by each wrestler's attempt to execute an arm bar submission maneuver). LRW Wrestling Presents...Kurt Mendelsohn

Our latest addition to the LRW Wrestling roster is a tatted up graffiti artist from the mean streets of Boston -- a blond-haired bad boy by the name of Kurt Mendelsohn.
Standing at 6' 2" tall and weighing 170 lbs., Kurt is a two sport (hockey and lacrosse) athlete at Syracuse University. An inner-city tough guy with the personality of a wild, predatory beast, Kurt considers the wolf to be his spirit animal. As evidenced by Kurt's profane gesture during his introductory interview, this young man is a different breed of LRW wrestler -- a Boston-strong roughneck from the wrong side of the tracks!
With customary hubris, Kurt dismisses his upcoming LRW opponent, Sean Evans: "He's got nothing on me." Not surprisingly, one of Kurt's numerous tattoos is the Northern Scottish motto, "Invictus maneo" (which means "I remain unvanquished" or, as Kurt phrased it, "I remain invincible").
Kurt masquerading as a preppie
As you can see from the above photo, Kurt can project a totally different (some may say, "totally misleading") image when he so desires. To view a gallery of 30 Kurt Mendelsohn portraits taken exclusively for LRW Wrestling (including pics of Kurt wearing his red, Nike NYLON WINDBREAKER!!!), just click on this link: KURT MENDELSOHN PORTRAITS.
Welcome to LRW Wrestling, Kurt Mendelsohn!!!
(P.S. The LRW Locker Room page has been updated to reflect the addition of Kurt to our roster.)
